With this issue, the Libyan Journal of Medical Sciences (Libyan J Med Sci) (ISSN 2588-9044), the official publication of the National Center of Diseases Control of Libya, begins its 3rd year. Our new journal received a very good response from the academic community in the past 2 years. The journal is an indexed open access and peer-reviewed journal that provides a platform to researchers, academicians, professionals, and students in all areas of medicine and medical sciences to share their research achievements, perspectives, and practical experiences.

It is a pleasure to announce the exponential increase of readership of the Libyan J Med Sci over the last year 2018. It is interesting to note that the number of downloads of full-text articles of our journal from countries outside Libya is at least as high as that from Libya and its neighboring countries. It is worth mentioning that in the last year the journal has published numbers of systematic reviews and meta-analyses. The readers have expressed great interest in these articles, and we will continue to publish this category of publication. Furthermore, we continue to publish experiences related to particular medical problems from Libya and different countries in the region. Due to the fact that in most cases data from these countries are lacking in the international literature, we think that these publications fill the gap and are important for physicians and scientists from worldwide to understand problems in our region. These are also indispensable for health policymakers in the region so that their decisions are based on adequate evidence from the respective countries. As we believe that medicine has no borders, articles from the region and many parts of the world are welcomed for publication in the journal.

For the year 2019, we are planning to add new sections to the journal, i.e., Medical Quiz, Commentary, and Mini-review. The editorial board members of the Libyan J Med Sci encourage authors to submit their manuscripts for peer reviewing if they think that their articles fall under one of these categories. Authors should put the remark with “the category name” in the field labeled “author comments” during submission. This is of course, in addition to other standard sections of the journal as original articles, review articles, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses, short communications, case reports, editorials, and letters to editor.

On behalf of the Editorial Board, I would like to thank our contributors and reviewers for their efforts and hope our readers continue to find useful and interesting information in the Journal. I encourage all our readers to consider submitting to the Journal, and we would be delighted to review your manuscript. Our efforts to improve and expand the journal will be greatly assisted by additional submissions.

Finally, we are sure that the Libyan J Med Sci will provide top-quality articles that will continue to help everyone interested in medicine and medical sciences. We hope that the journal will continue to be an important conduit for scientific information on a regional and a very broad international level.
